Sounds like a bearing going bad but that's a guess.

If it's a 4 speed I wouldn't be surprised if the metal was from the
contershaft bearings but who knows for sure.

Rip out the tranny and find out for sure or drop the bottom plate and look
at the gears if it's a 4 speed.
