Help! transmission down.

A while back I said that there was a clicking noise when I put the 
car into 1st gear, when I drained the transmission and metal parts 
started to come out. Is it my 1st gear that is shot? If so what is 
the best way to get my car back on the road.

I'll need to take my transmission out and take to a transmission shop 
to assess what is actually the problem. Any feedback would be much 
appreciated.
