Yesterday (Sunday, that is) the Datsun Sports Owner's Association and the
Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club got together for a run up into the
Dandenongs (a bunch of hills to the east of Melbourne - lotsa twisty
roads!). For me, it was the first time I've got together on a run with
other Datsuns, so it was a real blast! We met in Nunawading (just a suburb
on the east side of Melbourne) and looked over each other's cars - I got to
see Bruce Campbell's superb 2000 - the one from the front of the book - a
beautiful 1600 (possibly the nicest I've seen) and a couple of 2000's that
were an inspiration for getting mine looking that bit better (mine is
superb, mechanically, but really needs a re-spray). But because we were
with the NDSOC, we were running with a 260Z 2 seater (with sunroof!) a
couple of 240Z's, a 280Z, an S14 (IIRC) 200SX (Silvia in Japan), a Skyline
GTS-T and Prince Skyline (blowing a little smoke, but a superb example,
nevertheless). What a great cavalcade! I got some photo's, as soon as
they're developed I'll post 'em somewhere.

We headed through the hills (had some fun catching up with the guys after
pulling over to take photo's of them passing!) down to a tank museum for
lunch. The guy running the Museum has a Nissan Gti-R - really mean looking
little thing! He used to be in the Army himself - in vehicle recovery!
With over 55 armoured vehicles (mostly WWII vintage) it was quite a display.
Even got a ride in a self propelled gun! (Lee/Grant chassis with a 25pdr
on the front, for those of you who were wondering) Twin GM diesels, sounded
mean!

After that, most of the roadster crew decided to get going, and blasted up
the freeway back to Melbourne - sun shining, cars glinting in the sunlight,
and imagine the looks on people's faces when 5 gorgeous Datsun Sports
roadsters go flying past @110mph! Too much fun, I was grinning ear to ear!

Anyway, as I said, photo's soon to follow. It was great to meet some
roadster nuts I hadn't met before, catch up with those who have helped me in
the past (Lou Mondello, Australia's Guru of All Things Roadster, was there,
but with 2 kids, he had to resort to his BMW M5) and then show off the group
of cars together! Just excellent day, excellent weather, excellent people.

See you all around - drive safe,

Cheers,
Steve
