Back last night from the Glen. A lot of the usual crowd, some missing, and
some I did not see last year. There was the Fitz race car, another husband
and wife team (Ken and Diane Ziesenheim) from Florida in his and her race
roadsters. All told 20 street cars and 5 race cars. Most of the participants
travel over 6 hours to get there. More Massachusetts cars than any other
state. We had a great time, even without our roadsters there, I can't
understand why more people do not make it there. Mark Dent picked up peoples
choice with the 1500 he brought, he posted PICS earlier. Ed Uncle had best
2000, and 1600 went to a couple from Mass that, pardon me but forgot names.
but can't forget the car.
On the other hand, we were told that participation for the planning of the
event was nonexistent, and this year none of the vendors made it out. I
suppose the economy can be to blame for the baseness of the vendors, but as
for anyone else refusing to participate I could gripe about it for too long.
I asked what is the Web page or email address for the organizers and the
reply was 'thatsit@yahoo.com' . For the benefit of the list that plans to go
next year, let them hear from you. But even my email address sounds more
roadstery than that. OK I was a little disappointed in some of the
organization. But hey hand the torch off to someone else if its a problem. My
wife didn't know what a Datsun Roadster was before she met me, but I would
bet she would really get it organized if she was asked to. AND, I received
absolutely no email or letters or phone calls pertaining to the event for
this year. The only reason I knew about it last year was because, get this. I
had a 10 year old issue of Datsun tech tips that covered it. And a couple
guys on the list briefly mentioned it. The\y whine about lack of
participation, and then don't mail, phone or list to anyone that they want
help. And in fact tell some people to bug off they don't want the help. I
don;t know if the West has this kind of stuff going on, It doesn't sound like
it. We had no idea what was planned until just before it was to happen.
Fortunately there are a lot of events going on that kept us distracted in
town. Even the usual bon fire was canceled and changed to a gathering in a
pavilion. It was nice, but I like to see stuff burn, so I was really looking
forward to a bonfire.
The weather was unbelievable, the people I met were incredible. I hope you
all don't think we had a bad time. We can't wait til next year! But lets has
the activities posted in advance. Between now and then I am going to
concentrate on getting a roadster together for the event. I sucks being the
only cool guy in town without a roadster! OK I'm down, forks clean.
