The front carb of Jim's 1600 decided to try Chris's patience this weekend.
While the car ran great in Saturday morning's practice, It started acting up
in the afternoon race. Diagnosis; flooded front carb. Symptom; gas pouring
out the over flow. First thought was that the float had sunk. It hadn't.
Second thought was to high of a fuel level in the float chamber. It wasn't.
Third shot was that maybe the needle wasn't closing. Well, at 3000 RPMs, it
appeared to be okay. Ran great in the paddock. Back out on the track, it
ran fine for a lap or so and then started flooding and fouling the front two
plugs. Jim was able to keep it going by turning the fuel pumps on & off,
but only for another few laps. Again, a quick check showed fuel coming out
the overflow and the front two plugs beginning to foul.
Back in the paddock, at 3000 RPMs, everything was fine. But at 6000, fuel
began to flow out the overflow again. Swapped needles, three times, before
getting the over flow down to a drip. Worked well enough to capture second
place, but not a permanent solution.
Is anyone using Grose-Jets? Or is there another solution?

TIA,

Paul
