And don't forget that model-year cutovers were not all that clean.
Cars near a changeover were built using whatever was pulled
out of the parts bin, so for instance you'll find the 'wrong' bumper
may have been used because they still had a pallet of old bumpers
to use up.
Consider each car as a personal creation, built close to some set of
specs but not guaranteed to match our expectations exactly :-)
And then add to that the haphazard service and repair over the car's
life. Most of these cars lost fenders, grilles, bumpers to 'oopsies'
along the way. Getting the 'right' parts was less of a concern than
getting any parts at all, so lots of things got swapped along the way.
