Rover also built a turbine car called the Rover Whizzard, also known as the
Jet 1. It came out in 1950. It consumed fuel at the rate of 5 MPG. (that would
qualify it as an economy car in the US, wouldn't it? :-) )
The turbine cars weren't nearly as impressive as the Hungerford Rocket, these
were built in 1920 and were powered by a rocket installed in the back of the
car. It would be a really good way of getting rid of tail gaters, just fire
the rocket!
