... there is no mixture control on the panel like most
carburetted aircraft, because "it has a carb which
automatically compensates for altitude". The picture of the
engine shows what appears to be a CD175 perched right in the
middle! Maybe a similar carb built under license in either
Germany or Austria, as the plane has Austrian registration
The January '94 issue of AOPA Pilot has an article about the
Katana also. It states that "there's no mixture control to
mismanage, thanks to the Rotax's self-compensating dual Bing
carburetors." Bing ring a bell with anyone?
Ironically, since the use of mixture control is part of primary
flight training, another airplane whould have to be used for part
of the training.
