SOmeone wrote about wanting to convert a rubber bumper to a chrome. I
havn't done it but was very close to it. There are major structural
differences between the two. You have to cut away the rubber bumber mounts
where they attach to the subframe( This looks very dificult). You than
have to make a new attachment for the chrome bumpers. The "wings" I think
are the same, on some early ruberbumpers, as late chrome bumbers. My 77
had all the proper holes for the turn signals, just covered by the bumper.
Lowering the ride height by about 2 inches is the real problem. Rubber
bumbers use a different crossmember. You can either get a different
crossmember or cut the front springs. The rear just needs chrome bumper
springs.

The conversion proved to be too costly, and time consuming and was never
attempted. For less money you could buy a chrome bumper car and replace all
the parts from the late model.

Anyway, just my two cents.
