This one's got me beat right now...

A customer came in the other day to have his BW 35 auto gearbox replaced on
a (concours) Triumph 2.5PI. He'd been getting all sorts of problems, so he
decided that a reconditioned 'box was probably the best answer.

I reconditioned a 'box for him, put in some heavy duty clutches, and
generally tidied things up so it'd be a real good 'box. Changed the 'box,
put the fluid in, road tested OK, bit of judder on reverse which I put down
to new clutch plates.

He collects his car, pays the bill, drives away.

Phones me the following day - 'wonderful job', he says, 'it was really good
to drive home, but this morning it won't come out of first.' I've been to
his house today, changed the valve block for a new one. Road test the car,
and for the first mile or two it's staying in lockup first gear. (44MPH at
4,500 RPM!!) Then, with no untoward noises, it changes quickly up through
second into top. From then on the 10-mile test drive goes OK. 'Airlock'
thinks I, tells the chap it's OK now, drive home.

He phoned me this afternoon, 'it's done it again' he says. He'd let the car
stand for an hour or so, then driven down the road again, and it was just
like the first time, a couple miles in first gear, then it changes up and
all is well. In and out the traffic, changing up and down like a good 'un.

So, before I go really mad, what is it? Any BW gurus out there? The only
thing that I now suspect is the governor valve sticking, but I'd like to be
sure before I go back there...

Thanks for listening,
