Alas I knew her well

| As I write this I am looking at a picture of my yellow GT6 exiting turn
| 10 at Laguna Seca. It was taken at a Capri Club event. Over the years
| I had spent hundreds of hours on the car making major mods to the bare
| frame, which with the suspension, was then powder painted. The engine
| was pumped to a point that the little six would pull most V8s in a drag.
| The body was painted with Delton and it had a new interior with leather
| seats and a rosewood dash. Lots of TRS (trisk racing shit) and TLC. There
| was no part of the car that I had not had appart and few that I had not
| modified. Last week I got it back on the road after being down for a while.
| (it had punched a valve retainer and I did the clutch at the same time)
| We drove it over to my folks house for easter dinner. I was looking
| forward to driving it regularly again for the longish drive to and from
| work.
|
| Monday morning I got up a bit early. About a quarter past 7 I was finishing
| my coffee and looking out the front window when an 20 year old kid in an
| old Olsmobile hit the car at maybe 60 mph.
|
| I estimate the speed partially by the fact that an 8000 lb motor home that
| was parked in front of the GT6 was punted 35 feet forward and up onto my
| neighbors plantings by the secondary impact of the gt6 being knocked into
| it.. Also by the fact that the gt6 is now about as long as it is wide.
| I have seen and more wrecks in the last 40 years then I care to think about,
| including a, car I was in that was hit by a train and another that went
| through the wall of a building. I don't remember one to compare to this.
| A couple minutes more and I would have been in the car.
|
| The punch line? Yeah you guessed it, he had no insurance and was driving with
| a suspended licence. Quote for the day: " Gee, maybe I could get a job and
| pay you to get it fixed."
|
| Please don't ask about my insurance coverage. ....
