Last night I reassembled the cam stuff: lockplate, sprocket, locktab, nut
and gave it a damn good torque down...this time the endfloat was well within
specs...it seems that the sprocket wasn't being pushed far enough down,
thus leaving lost of space between the sprocket and the cam plate.
I made sure the crank and cam sprocket were aligned while fully pushed
home this time(!), then took 'em off, reassembled the chain and put
the whole lot on the engine. Ta da!
Well, thanks to all with advice on this matter...and for putting up
with my squawking when stuff didn't seem to be going right!
