You should be able to lay on a very thin bead of solder along the slit.
This will most likely require at least a 30watt soldering iron, one of
the 60W guns would likely be best. Clean the metal well with emery cloth
before starting, get the metal heated properly, and you should be able to
get a good seal with rosin-core solder.
