A few days ago I noticed that the idle on my TR-6 was getting very
lumpy and bumpy. So I figured the usual that the idle mixture was
not set right. After some fiddling I was convinced the problem wasn't
fuel related. So I walked to the other side of the engine and started
pulling plug wires while listening to the idle. I pulled plug wire
one ...no change. Wire two....no change. Wire three.....no change.
Pulled wire four idle drops out. Wire five idle drops out. Wire
six no change. Hmmmm I'm running on only two cylinders. At first
I thought oh well fouled plugs. After changing the plugs and checking
the wires, rotor, and cap the problem was still there. Oh no.....
time to check the compression.......relief 150psi down the line.
Then whats the problem here????? It turns out that the Allison Electronic
Ignition that I installed 5 years ago is flakin out and can only get the
coil to fire the plugs on pistons 4 and 5.

For those of you with the Allison Electronic Ignition one of the selling
points was its lifetime warranty. I find out after some calling that
Allison was bought out by Crane Cams. Luckly Crane Cams still honors the
lifetime warranty on the old Allison units. So for those of you that care
the new phone number to call is (904) 252-1151.

I'm glad to find problems like this in my driveway then on the road.
I plan on taking the TR to Long Island and hate like hell to have to
break down on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.
