Now now, you'll have me typing in the words to the
Philosopher's song if you're not careful... Jeez, and
the other Scott is Australian, no less! Howls of
derisive laughter, Scott!

The terribly sad news is that the XJ-S, along with
most other cars that I'd been looking at (including,
I hesitate to add, a brand-new Miata which were on a
super sale here last weekend for $13,700 at about
five local dealerships) is out of the question for
probably five to six more months at a minimum. I
spent a very depressed weekend as I realized that the
nice raise I was getting here is eaten up by the
pay cycle here. So the good news is that I get
26 paychecks a year of approximately the same size
as the 24 paychecks I was getting at my last job.
The bad news, of course, is that this buggers my
plans to spend the monthly difference on a nifty
car, as the monthly difference is actually a very
small negative amount. (The fact that I took a
raise and got a pay cut is one of the things that
make you wonder whether God's middle name is Lucas...)

Oh well. The good side of this is that in September,
I'll get a paycheck that isn't accounted for in the
budget! With careful planning, it might let me at
least get the MGB painted. There are some advantages
to getting larger chunks of money less frequently if
you have British cars... And since September is when
I'm slated to get the advance for the book, I might
really be in good shape then.

But, sigh... No XJ-S for a while, I'm afraid. Oh
well, it's going to push me that much harder to get
the motor in the MGB. Considering it's got probably
30 more bhp than the motor in the car now (a tired
'71 being replaced with a measured 110-bhp jewel),
I should be adequately thrilled for a while. At
least until the gearbox explodes! :-)
