This is my first time using this service so please excuse me if I violate any
protocol.

I recently became the owner of a 1973 Spitfire 1500 and would like to see if
anyone has encountered some of the problems that are currently perplexing me.

1) The rear right corner seems to sit a little lower than the left and when
pushing down on either corner, there does not appear to be alot of travel in
the spring. I looked underneath and there do not appear to be any cracks in
the transverse leaf spring but the shocks seem worn. Would worn shocks
account for the sag and small amount of travel ?? I assumed this would be a
spring problem. Or, are the springs likely to sag after 20 yrs ??

2) While inspecting the rear suspension, I noticed that on one wheel, the
axel is free to slide in and out of the rear hub assembly (~ 0.75 in.). I
initially thought that this would mean a worn bearing but I would not think
that this would manifest in the manner mentioned. Should there be some sort
of collar on the axel to keep it from sliding relative to the hub ??

Thanks

Jim McNamara
