Even dealers will give you discounts, if you ask. I used to buy
lots of Volvo parts and got to know the parts guys at one of the
local dealers really well. They would routinely give me the
"Volvo Club" discount which was 10-15%. They eventually bumped
that up to 20%. Unfortunately, the dealer sold out and the parts
guys moved to northern Michingan. I find that I can still get at
least 10% by saying "Can you give me the Volvo Club discount?" (note
the wording - I never said *I* was a member. In 10 years I only had
one guy ask me about the club and that was just to make conversation).
Sometimes I can squeeze it up to 15% by checking with a couple of
different dealers (what? you're only allowing 10%? So and so
will give me 15%!).
This has always amazed me.
