A couple of tidbits from AutoWeek this week:

SOLD OUT.

The first four months of MG RV8 production (AW, Nov. 30), about 200 cars,
is sold out.

First deliveries will begin later this month. Most are destined to stay
in England, thought a few will end up in MG fans' hands outside the U.K.

ANOTHER NEW ROVER?

Rover is studding a less-expensive, higher-volume roadster, intended for
both the home market as well as exports. The exports may include the
United States, but so far cost studies have been based on European sales.

Codenamed PR3, the car is a small mid-engine roadster, loosely based on
the Rover 200. It has actually been undergoing development for a couple
of years but never got the go-ahead.

This time around, Rover is going with a partner, Mayflower, a U.K.-based
holding company which of late has been buying up specialty engineering
firms. Mayflower will assemble the bodies for Rover. Perhaps just as
important, Mayflower will share in the car's costs.

PR3 could thus go to market as early as late '95 as a '96 model.

Engines will include 1.6- and 1.8-liter variants, and maybe a 1.8-liter
supercharged K engine as well. Rover will use as many off-the-shelf
parts as possible to keep the car in the Miata price range.
