**** You don't need aluminum foil.  Just wrap a piece of insulated wire around
the spark plug wire. Three or four turns should do nicely.   You can also get
lots of good information off the primary waveform, available at the points
terminal.  For a good description of using a scope, complete with waveform
pictures, see "Automotive Test Equipment You Can Build" by Edward Evenson.
