Well they can still roll if pushed hard enough. The Mk IV and 1500
had a "pivoting spring" rather than axle. The spring is designed so
that all but the bottom leaf are allowed to slip from to side to
side. This reduces roll resistance and the jacking tendancy

I have been unable in several attempts to locate a camber compensator
for the Spitfire. If anyone has a source I'm still interested.
