4A fuel tank sensor

I noticed the other day that when I fill the tank full, I get some fuel
seepage out of the sealing ring around the plate where the fuel guage
sensor fits. This is both unsightly and probably dangerous :-) Is there
any way of replacing this short of removing the tank? It doesn't look
like there's enough clearance between the top of the tank and the body
panel above it, but I haven't tried.
