Re: head light mechanisms

I'm looking for the 7/16 inch nylon hinge pins for the headlight mechanism.  
They are the ones 
that have the open/close spring wrapped around them.  I've looked everywhere 
and can't find any. 
The closest I've found is 1/2 inch nylon bolts that are long enough to use with 
the threads cut 
off.  Can these be turned down to 7/16?  I'm concerned that metal rods might 
eventually wear out 
the holes in the sheet metal.

Any ideas?
