just having someone on the look out is a strong enough deterrent to foil all
but the most brazen thieves, which we would not be stopping anyway. i saw
all the people driving in and around the paddock late in the day, clearly
sizing up the situation. i packed up my car and locked the trunk. one
reason i didnt do fun runs was because i didnt want to unpack my stuff and
leave it there late in the day. we need to expect this, both as a group and
individually.

ideally, all of us will keep a look out for everyone else, and people need
to take reasonable individual responsibility for their valuables to reduce
temptations. all the thefts i know about are not witnessed- evidence that
thieves strike when they are not being observed.
