Joey,
Be careful with the hoosiers, you want to be sure the tires last ALL
DAY LONG. Heat probably won't be as much of a problem as tire wear. My
co-driver and I went through 2/3 of a set of KUMHOS at last year's
school, though the GGF surface is probably more abrasive than 3COM, not
sure on that tho.
Also, as Katie said, you most likeley will be focusing a lot more on
theory and technique that will transcend tire choice and, in many
cases, car choice. I drive an MR2 and actually rented a '00 Miata for
one school I took last year. It was bone stock with street tires and
was still a great learning experience. Everything I learned carried
over to my MR2.
I would guess you'd probably toast a new set of Hoosiers at a school,
that's an expensive day :) Plus, you blow a turn early while learning a
corner and you could be on flatspotted tires for the rest of the day...
for that reason alone I wouldn't bring Hoosiers to a school.
I'd run the cheapest streets you can find and work on theory and
technique.
