Mr. Volpp,

I don't work for Carvin, and I don't know Dave Hardy, but your response
sounded like a challenge. Anyone with internet access (including you) can
answer your question in a couple minutes, as I did.

I only found one head-to-head comparison in a powered mixer (what is likely
to be purchased by an SCCA club). Results:

                    Model Rated Power Inputs
Online Price
Peavey XR 560 200 watts X 2 channels 5
$399.99
Carvin PA 620 200 watts X 2 channels 6
$299.99

There is no direct comparison in more powerful powered mixers, but here is
the most powerful version from each company.

                    Model Rated Power Inputs
Online Price
Peavey XR 696 600 watts X 2 channels 8
$879.99
Carvin PA 800 333 watts X 3 channels 8
$669.99

Both company's products have similar features, both have rated power into 4
ohms. Carvin has a 1 year warranty (possibly 3 on the power amp portion). I
could not find warranty information on Peavey's web site.

Keep in mind, for what most clubs use a PA system for, many of the features
of any of these products are not really needed. Generally it is one
microphone, possibly two, and you want to generate enough volume to be
heard. The primary usage is as a true public address system, voice broadcast
of information. As most clubs have a limited budget to work with, saving
$100 or more is a strong argument for products of similar performance. I
would say for many, if not most, clubs and sites the less powerful mixers
above would be adequate. If not, either of the more powerful would be more
than adequate, with a savings of over $200 with Carvin.

Sincerely,

Ernie Hernandez
