Here's my interpretation on how it was explained to me. I posted this
previously just after the Area 3 meeting, but here goes again:

There will actually be RT during the class competition, but it will be just a
min/max setting deal. The minimum setting will be 0.5 sec; I assume based on
theoretical human reaction time. The max setting will be 2 sec to prevent
someone from sitting on the start line and playing games since the clock for
a given side won't begin until the vehicle breaks the start beam on that
side. It takes the possibility of redlighting as unnecessary, except to
theoretically practice cutting lights for the Challenge. With this scenario,
waiting until you see green for class competition won't have any effect on
your class run time and will greatly reduce the possibility of redlighting.
The argument is that you aren't practicing for cutting the lights in the
Challenge you'll be at a disadvantage there. I can't say I agree with that
argument.

As I understood it, determining which car gets back to the finish first isn't
considered important for class competition. I can't agree with that either.
However, for Challenge competition the concern is for determining which car
gets back to the finish first, hence the inclusion of RT in the total time
during Challenge competition. Now, the way I thought I heard it was that
including RT into class competition could easily be done, it just wasn't
considered important.

The Ft Myers event is less than 2 weeks away. Yeah, when we get there we
might say "no big deal", but then again maybe we don't. Frankly, I don't
like the idea of going into the event unsure of what it is we do or don't
have; what is fact and what is fiction? The point on generating dialogue on
the subject isn't to complain; it's to try and understand just what's going
on. I'm not confident that any of us fully understand the whole scope of the
issue, including me.

I am open-minded to the possibilty that all my conceptions and understandings
are wrong, and under the circumstances I hope everyone else who is not 100%
sure on this subject is just as open-minded.
