It CAN be. Or not. Odds are good however, IMHO.

When I chaired the 1975 Nationals in Salina, Oct. 11-12, we had a heat wave.
Record highs of 95.

We just did our annual Octoberfast last weekend. The weather was absolutely
gorgeous. Gentle breeze, 70s, foggy in the morning but it lifted by 10 am
and the sun came out.

We did a Sept. 24 event and it was miserable. Cold, drizzly, hard to believe
two weeks earlier it had been 60 degrees warmer. The worst single day of
weather here since last April! (As autocrossers would define bad weather --
farmers were happy to see it, it just chose to come on a Sunday instead of
midweek!).

First snow has come as early as Halloween, but early December is more
common.

On average, temps in the 60s, low 70s in October if the days are nice.
Definitely unlikely to get the heatwave we had arriving at Topeka this year.
Also unlikely to get snowed or iced (as Mid-O was for the Runoffs this
year).

IMHO, your changes of decent weather in October are as good as they are in
September. Generally a little cooler, generally a slightly less chance of
precipitation. It can be Indian summer, perhaps crisp air and nice days. Not
quite as windy.

I think in light of the Runoffs change, an early- or mid-October date would
be a good option to explore.
