Just because they CAN doesn't mean that they MUST. >>

Section 6.10, Page 67, 2000 National Solo 2000 rules:
"During Impound, the following minimum procedures will be administered by the
Chief of Impound or his representative(s), on all potential trophy-winning
cars (as determined by the unofficial results):

_Stock_and_Street_Prepared_Categories_ - Inspect for obvious illegalities
(including tires not previously inspected for competition use in accordance
with Section 13.3.I)."

See also Section 5.5, page 64, regarding the duties of the Chief Technical
Inspector.

<< My own opinion is that they SHOULDN'T protest anything that they have not
been specifically told to inspect. They are not chartered to inspect
everything and couldn't do it. >>

Not everything, just obvious illegalities. The holes drilled in inner panels
(at least on 1st Gen RX7's) or missing speakers above the shock adjustment
are pretty damned obvious.

<< Any time that they protest any item and can be shown to have "missed" any
other item would give a person to claim that they were enforcing the rules
 selectively. >>

Oh, please...
