MTI Racing signs up driver picked to win last years T1 Runnoffs. That's
right! Jeff Altenburg, former T1 Viper racer has come over to Corvette Land
to run a new 1999 MTI Racing prepared C5 Hardtop in SCCA National Racing's
T1 class and compete for a victory at Runnoffs!
Some of you may remember last year when Jeff set a new track record at
the SCCA Valvoline Runnoffs in a 1998 Viper GTS coupe and was running out
front by several car lengths when his dodge motor expired and left him to
watch the rest of the race from the turn 3 workers stand. Jeff is an
excellent driver and will be a definite contender for the T1 Championship.
After deciding to switch to the Corvette for 1999 (the result of much
prodding by Scotty B) MTI Racing negotiated the purchase of a blk 99 FRC
from Monica at Maxie Price in Atlanta for him, picked it up a week later and
is almost finished with the race prep. When contacted at his Maryland home
Jeff said, *Oh yeah, I am definitely excited to be racing the new Corvette
and be a team mate of MTI Racing with Scotty B! Scotty and I have been
friends for a while and have already kind of been teammates due to our
relationship with our mutual sponsor, Kumho Tire*
Reese Cox of MTI Racing was also elated to have Jeff on the *team*
saying, *Now with Scotty AND Jeff we are virtually assured of a podium
finish at Runnoffs and hopefully a 1-2! These guys can both really wheel a
car around a race track!* Reese also spoke to Ken Brown Chief of GM
Motorsport and Brown was delighted to hear of another top contender in an
MTI Racing Corvette. MTI Racing has been working closely with Brown and GM
Motorsports on both their National and Pro racing ventures.
Both MTI Racing T1 cars will race next at the SCCA National at Road
Atlanta on 6/12-13 against at least 2 Vipers and maybe a Ferarri or Mustang
or two.
