Large stadium parking lots can be very expensive. Here in the San Francisco Bay
Area, we rent two, Candlestick (now known as 3Com Park), and the Oakland
Coliseum (now known as Network Associates Coliseum).
Each runs about $1700 per day (generally speaking, maybe that's a little
high).
How do we pay for it?
With entry fees only. What makes these sites work is the central location,
lots of pre-event publicity, usually over the local autocross net, and entry
fees of $25.00 for members; $35.00 for non members.
Round 1 drew 281 entries; Round 2 drew 239 (it was raining all day). At
Candlestick, which has a much bumpier surface, the entry levels are somewhat
down from that.
One of the problems with Oakland is they will not guarantee a date more
than 30 days prior, so we cannot schedule Tours, Divisionals, or Pros, tho it
would be a great site for any/all of those.
Sounds like the Chiefs/Royals stadium parking lot price is in line with
what we're paying. I think you might be amazed at how many more folks turn out
when an event is really convenient.
What is your normal turnout? When we go out of the Bay Area, our entry
levels drop significantly, like cut in half. Fortunately those more distant
sites cost a quarter of the high dollars, so we still make out.
There is usually someone in the management end of a stadium who controls
the parking lots' usage; that's the person you need to find. No one special,
usually, just who ever controls the parking.
