Folks, I saw something scary at the Dodge dealership parts counter last week
and thought I'd convey it too you.

I went in to get the infamous Neon "steering knuckle pop" taken care of and
while I was waiting I strolled over to the parts counter and asked them to
see a front motor mount for my Neon.

Well, after I had to look at their chart and point out which part I wanted,
typical, they brought me the part to look at. There were 2 different part
numbers stamped right into the part itself. They looked like this but I
can't remember all the numbers:

XXXXXX182(yellow)
XXXXXX183(white)

There was also a yellow splotch of paint about the size of a nickel right
over the stamped-in part numbers but I could still read the part numbers
throught the paint as was intended. This yellow paint was supposed to
designate this particular part as being the XXXXXX182 part.

BUT, their inventory sticker that they put on the parts (or does the
manufacturing plant do it?) and use to pull a part for sale or a work order
had the XXXXXX183 number on it.

I pointed out to them that they had a wrong inventory sticker on the motor
mount and they said that they (there were 3 guys there) had never before
noticed the stamped-in part numbers or the splotch of paint to differentiate
between the two different parts. They just use the inventory stickers to
pull parts for work orders.

Scary huh?

So, the moral of this story is to have the service department, or better yet
do it your own dang self, double check the part numbers to ensure that you
get the correct part installed on your car.

Oh BTW, I just went ahead and bought a spare front motor mount (the right
one) to replace myself when mine does go bad. And to have a spare one for
my autocross events, just in case. ;^)

Other than that they did good work. I guess? ;^)

See you on course.
