You might try a simple solution before removing the hood.  I experienced
what appears to be the same problem.  If I stood outside the right hand
door, reached in the open window and held the hood release lever open with
my left hand, I could lift the corner of the hood high enough with the right
hand to get it past the catch.  Once the hood was open, adjustments could be
made.  Hope this works for you.
