When I did my recent rebuild ( to remedy a broken piston and ring) I
found the soft rubber timing chain tensioner pad had nearly completely
worn away after only 3k miles of use. I remember the original being all
steel, but it too was badly worn. This time I used the spring from the
recent replacement unit, with a piece of delrin bearing stock riveted to
it the rivets countersunk 1/4" below the running surface. have to wait
and see how it holds up over the long haul.
