I think you'll find that the unobtainium is rubber. More than adequate 
replacements are available from the aerospace industry. 

As to the assemply under pressure, I'm sure that is right, but, as long as 
one is careful to tighten from the inside-out (as for e.g. cylinder heads) 
this is not a problem.

Regarding torque setting, bloody tight seems to work well for me.
