Bob, these sounds like the clips that engage the finishing strip that sits
under the grill. It has a folded edge that engages with these three clips and
the rear vertical edge is riveted to the valence at a few locations.

Part number 43 "finisher"

Subject: [6pack] Late 72 Front Apron Question

Hi,

I am fixing some rust on the front apron, actually the upper part where the
grill attaches.

I noticed 3 separate 1.5 & .75 inch pieces of sheet metal just welded on the
top of the apron on the shelf just below where the grill attaches. One in the
center and the others on either side. At this point they are just rusty and
seem out of place. What is the purpose of these three rectangles? Can I just
grind them off smooth?

Thanks,

Bob
