If this is on your 74.5 and has not been messed with it is almost certainly a
J type. External differences include the solenoid mounted horizontally on the
J type but vertically on the A type. J type is generally only wired for 3 And
4 while the A type is wired for 2, 3 and 4. A type is powered via a relay, J
type is generally not.
There are probably other external differences with the OD and its mounting.
I don't think the A type was used beyond 1972, CC and CP series.
