A few days ago I asked if it is possible to somehow reverse the column
headlight switch on my 74 1/2 so that the high beam lights are on
when the column switch is pushed down and the low beam lights are on
when the lever is in its natural resting position (which in my mind
should be when it is resting horizontally, just like on any other car
I've driven).
After receiving a few responses about switching the wires at the
headlights, I took another look at the schematics (the problem with
switching the wires at the headlights was that the high beam indicator
on the dash would then come on when the low beams were on instead of
the high beams).
After some thought, it looks like you could, in theory, swap the wires
that run out of the column switch. Specifically - it seems you could
plug the blue/white wire coming from the column switch into the
blue/red wires running to the high beams and plug the blue/red wire
coming from the column switch into the blue/white wires running to the
low beams (take a look at the schematics and you will see what I'm
talking about).
I tested this last night and it appeared to work fine. However, here
is my question. Is there anything with the electrical load or
circuits that I'm missing. It would seem, looking at the schematics
using my limited electrical knowledge, that by making this switch the
low beams are now getting power directly from the fuse box and the
high beams are getting power via the dash headlight switch. But I'll
admit, I'm not the best at reading schematics, so I might be looking
at this wrong.
So, before I go out driving at night, I just wanted to run this by everyone.
