Jeff,

Vance might have something there with the worn
brushes. Extremely easy to replace. I replaced a set
for a friend with the alternator on the car. Pop the
wires off, black plastic cover & the brush pack(making
note of each wire's location...I think there are 3 or
4). The regulator will need to come off too. Undo
the very small bolts that hold the wires in place.
The brushes are spring loaded & soldered to little
pieces of metal. You'll see what I mean when you get
the new brushes. Simply pull the old brushes out &
replace them with new. No soldering is required.
You'll notice the length of the brushes will be much
shorter on the old vs new. One thing you might try
before all this...the single brown wire going to the
alternator...might want to pull it off & clean up the
connection. Mine actually reads high until I pull
that connection off & clean it. If you need pics of
the brush procedure, I'd be happy to take one of mine
apart & take pics. It really is a snap! In fact,
once you're in there, you'll notice that there really
isn't much to these alternators.

Good Luck,

Todd Bermudez
