Thanks to all that responded. 

It seems that the consensus use a 2 x 4 or similar to twist the door to fit. 
The book "How to Restore British Cars" suggested this too, but I was afraid 
that the TR6 would be the one exception to the one size fits all 
recommendation. 
I'll give it a try and let you know the results.
