Vink---To pretty much rule out the throwout bearing as the noise you are
hearing, when the engine is idling in neutral, try this:

Jack up the driver's side of the car and take out the clevis pin that
connects the SC pushrod to the clutch operating arm. (Hold the rod so it
won't creep out of the SC)
Push the operating arm towards the front of the car. (It will only move
this way about 1/4" or less) If the sound you hear stops, it's because
this bearing is no longer turning, or dragging against the clutch
fingers.

Noisy Tranny in Neutral
Vink,
I got into this thread late but have you considered the possibility that
the noise in neutral is coming from the throw out bearing. It's a lot
simpler to fix than a transmision rebuild. I always hope that the
problem is the one with the simplest and cheapest solution.
