Hi Seth,

you are correct. you do need to make the oil adaptor angled
a little. i have mine at the 7 o'clock position pointed upward to the
1 o'clock position. even if yours is at the 8 oclock-2 oclock combo,
that would be fine. enough oil will stay in the filter at that angle.
at least i believe it would. especially since a lot (A LOT) of newer
cars have there filters screwed in on a totally horizontal position.

BTW, i have had mine on for about 8-9 years and it has never leaked
around the base! when i bought the car, i tried changing the stock
filter once.....ONCE! and i decided after all that headache to put
on the adaptor.
