I'm not too sure about the inner workings of the o/d unit. All I know
is that my transmission was able to slip under power, and this was due
to something being worn out and pretty much shot in the o/d unit. The
slipping was definitely within the transmission, not at the clutch.
When I looked at the o/d unit (after it's complete failure) I could see
that most of the friction linings were worn completely away. I assumed
that this was what was allowing the transmission to slip. I will have
to look into how this "free wheel clutch" works. Perhaps this clutch
failed first, allowing my tranny to slip, and the rest of the o/d unit
fell apart afterwards. Thanks for the info.
