Phil, Your great e-mail brought back memories of a couple of long trips I have
done in my TR6. On my longest trip (Seattle to Armaugh, PA and return via
Canada)I experienced the HURT HAIR phenomenon too! We found that in order to
get baseball caps to stay on, the strap had to be tightened to the point of
causing headaches, so to relieve the pain of the tight cap, we would just run
bare-headed for a while. Then your hair actually itches like crazy when you
stop driving! A fellow I work with has a cap he bought at the Pyramid Brewery
in Seattle that has a wide elastic band inside it that he swears is good for
80mph, and isn't too tight at all.

As far as your oil pressure goes, it's a little lower than mine after I've
driven mine for several hours at speed, but I wouldn't worry if you aren't
getting any bearing rattle at any time. If your main and rod bearings are fine
as you suspect, it could be that the camshaft bearing surfaces of your block
are a little worn. But, I would just continue to drive it, but check the
crankshaft end play from time-to-time. Should the crankshaft thrust washers
get excessively worn and loose they can actually fall out into the oil pan
causing all kinds of not-fun consequences. The likelihood of trouble in this
area can easily be determined by measuring the crankshaft end play.
