I fitted a flat 13" (wood) Mota-Lita to my '70 six quite a while back, and
my car has the same column switch layout as yours. I've certainly not found
it to restrict access to the column sticks, if anything I'd probably say it
improves it, as you have more "stick" to aim for when you want to flick in
the overdrive and steer at the same time..
Regarding how it looks, I guess its entirely down to personal taste, and I
know purists wouldn't agree with me, but I think it looks great - and more
suited to the scale of the rest of the interior, without looking too new.
And the higher gearing means big improvements in steering precision when
driving - so I'd say well worth it !
