Gary,
Congrats on the bounty.  Leave the engine in your car and install the trans
& overdrive unit complete from your friends set-up.  Keep your original
transmission stored somewhere just incase you decide to sell the car or want
to bring her back to the original set-up that she came with.
My car was a standard trans.  I converted the trans to overdrive and kept
the original just in case.
Thats my honest opinion.
