I have been blessed(?) with a unique opportunity - a
friend of mine who has put considerable time and
effort into his 6 has decided to upgrade(?) his entire
drivetrain - he will in fact be putting in a Ford 5.0L
engine with a 5-speed tranny and appropriately beefing
everything up - one side of me is very envious - this
is of course the side that loves the "tear your head
off your shoulders" thrill of that engine - the other
side is still debating whether this is what an
original 6 was intended to be but in any case he has
given me the opportunity to have the engine and tranny
that he has today - which I am gladly taking. The
tranny is a J-type overdrive so I am VERY anxious to
get this - on the engine side I am getting the header
on up and appropriate pieces - in particular -

3 @ Delorto Carbs
Cannon Intake
Cannon Headers
Allison Electronic Ignition
High Performance Ignition Set
Distributor Rebuilt

Outside of this I also get (if I want)
New pistons and rings
New bearings
High Lift Cam
Original Differential
Brand new bearings and U-Joints on rear Axles

My current engine has only about 1500 miles on a total
rebuild including hardened seats and valves,
performance CAM etc --- a very nice job.

I am looking for opinions - should I pop my head and
replace with this wonderfully ported and polished head
- fully intact and matched and break the sacred bond I
have had with the original engine or should I leave as
is. I am replacing the tranny either way but am
interested in opinions.

Thanks

Gary
