John:

In the snow belt, October is the time of year that a lot of people realize
that they do not want to pay for storage for the next 6 months of winter or
park outside while their classic is in the garage. The Sunday Classic Car
For Sale ad section is huge here in Cleveland from late September to early
October for exactly this reason.

Less noticeable: In the Spring, you see a lot of unfinished wintertime
projects for sale. And in July, you see a lot of cars that go up for sale
because their owners don't have the time anymore, the cars have been
unreliable so far this year (poor storage is hard on cars) and/or the owner
wants to sell while the summer classic car fever is in full swing.

Obviously, these general observations do not hold true in SCA or other
warm-year-round areas.

PS I was thinking up a great response based on the seasons of England still
regulate a Triumph's performance even 30 years later...but even I couldn't
post that one this far from April Fools Day;-).
