Mitch,
On the two cars that are at my disposal, and I
have taken apart, the splines have been to the front
as you say your car was. Recently I bought a
differential and drive shaft from a guy that had a
stalled project. On this rear end the splined end was
bolted up. Sorry I don't have the answer you probably
wanted, but I can say that both my cars drive well,
and he was parting his car out.
