The control of my HF 2,000 lb. DC winch is dying. It's an all-plastic nightmare, and though I cleaned the contacts, the plastic mechanism isn't snapping properly. There are no parts available - just

Sounds to me like you're looking for a Ford starter solenoid. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Solenoid-Switch/_/N-9riee?filterByKeyWord=f1492&fromString=search&isSearchByPartNumber=true John.

I bought one of these relays many years ago from J. C. Whittney. It was intended for use in paralleling and seriesing car batteries so you could charge, say, on 12V and running on 24V. The only prob

Thanks, John, but if I use that or any other SPST solenoid, I have to use 4 of them to get the same result as one DPDT relay/solenoid. Doable, just expensive - but maybe my best option - we'll see. K

Don't underestimate the duty cycle issue. I have worked on a snow plow that used what sure looked like a starter relay. But when I put a starter relay in there, it worked great for a little while, th

I assume this works by switching polarity to reverse the winch? So Forward is A>X and B>Y; and Reverse is A>Y and B>X ? _______________________________________________ Shop-talk@autox.team.net Donate

That's how every electric winch I've worked on has been wired, with four big SPST solenoids set up to emulate a DPDT. Wells sell a couple continuous duty relays that are probably suitable for your us

I don't know the duty cycle for the Ford starter solenoid; but there are similar solenoids sold for battery isolation in motor homes that have an unlimited (or at least 6 hours) duty cycle. On my ol

Here's another option; but considerably more expensive than 4 SPST solenoids I think: http://goo.gl/zvCTj Or, two of these in a SPDT continuous duty configuration: http://goo.gl/s4kMT (price is under

Yes - that's the typical DC winch wiring. As I think about it, one value of using 4 independent SPST relays is that if one pair of relay contacts welds closed, the other one used for that direction c
