In the vein of the cheap tools Vs expensive tools, get yourself and expensive nut splitter and split it. Cheap ones might (if your are lucky) remove one or two before it breaks. GJB

I had a very similar experience today while uncoupling the driveshaft on my 77MGB. I ended up using a pair of 'needle-nose' vice grips to hold the nut. YMMV, but it worked for me. Bud Krueger

Too tight a place for a socket? Usually, I can find a six point socket, worn out, metric etc. that will remove a rounded nut. If there's no socket room and it was rounded off with a 12 point box-end

I would suggest that you use hammer and chisel on the nut. You should be able to crack it and then remove it. Jim V.

If that doesn't work, try slitting the nut with a cut-off wheel in a dremel tool. Even if you don't slice all the way throught the nut, cutting most of the way through will loosen it up. -- Eric Murr
